What this role covers

We are hiring a Development Assistant for a nonprofit company in the social impact / poverty alleviation industry. This is a full-time remote role for a U.S.-based company. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, experienced in remote work, skilled in grant writing and donor engagement, and passionate about supporting community-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment.

This role will work closely with and take direction from the Development Lead and must be comfortable supporting multiple functions across the organization, not limited to grant writing alone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Draft compelling grant proposals, applications, and impact reports that clearly translate program impact in a remote working environment.

  • Maintain a grants calendar with deadlines and reporting requirements, managing multiple projects concurrently.

  • Draft and schedule donor thank-you messages, newsletters, and impact stories that support relationship-building and stewardship.

  • Manage donor records in CRM, including giving history, engagement notes, and touchpoints.

  • Ensure consistent donor engagement through personalized communications and proactive follow-ups.

  • Track stewardship activities to improve donor retention and individual giving outcomes.

  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday, year-end drives, micro-campaigns).

  • Support campaign messaging across channels (emails, social media drafts, donor appeals).

  • Monitor campaign performance and prepare progress and impact reports.

  • Coordinate follow-ups with donors, partners, and internal stakeholders after campaigns.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with programming and operations teams to help articulate program needs, outcomes, and value propositions to donors.

  • Support business-development-style activities by identifying opportunities, assisting with relationship-building, and contributing to proposal development beyond grants.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills (grant proposals, reports, donor communications, and fundraising content).

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, donor engagement, or development support roles.

  • Demonstrated experience working fully remote, with the ability to understand and communicate program impact without on-the-ground presence.

  • Highly organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable taking direction, asking questions proactively, and adapting quickly to shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with fundraising tools and CRMs.

  • Business development or relationship-building mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities and support donor cultivation efforts.

  • Experience working in dynamic, high-growth nonprofit or social impact organizations.

  • Creative thinker with experience supporting campaign strategies, messaging, and donor storytelling.

Required Skills & Tools:

  • CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred, or similar)

  • Instrumentl or similar Grant Opportunities platform

  • Microsoft Office Suite / Google Workspace

  • Strong written communication tools (email, newsletters, reporting platforms)

  • Ability to manage tasks independently while collaborating closely with leadership

Schedule & Pay:

  • Full-time position, starting at 40 hours/week with flexibility to scale during campaigns.

  • Must be available during 8:30pm-430pm - U.S. business hours (Eastern Time Zone) -

  • Pay ranges from R14,000 - R17,000 per/month, depending on experience and skill.

  • Annual raises, bonuses, and holiday PTO available.
